payroll management certificate 08
The Payroll Management Certificate course is run by The Association for Payroll Specialists in conjunction with Macquarie University*. It is designed to give Payroll Officers an understanding of how to manage staff resources and systems to enable the production of punctual and accurate payments to employees and company reporting requirements.

* Macquarie University will cease to be involved with the Payroll Management Certificate course from the end of 2008. Students who complete the PMC course after this date will not have the Macquarie University logo printed on their certificate.

5 modules | including major assignment
The course commences with a 'How to Study' and introduction evening. Following are the five core
modules of the course:

• Computing module - March / April
• People Management module -
April / June
• Superannuation module -
July / August
• Accounting module -
September / October
• Employment Relations module -
November / December

Each module runs for six weeks and students will
need to complete an assignment and exam
satisfactorily to pass each module. Students are
also required to complete a major project during
the year.

The major project will take the form of a report to management on the implementation of a new system
for the payroll department.

In 2008 there are two options available for students.

Lecture learning

This will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings between 6.30pm and 9.00pm at a Sydney CBD venue. The course begins on Monday 3rd March and concludes on Wednesday 10th December 2008.


*note | there is a maximum class size of 30 students.
Distance learning
The notes will be mailed to the students in a folder, complete with the assignment details prior to the start of each module.

For each module, students will be able to dial in and participate in two lectures. A message board will be set up to enable students to ask questions and receive answers on relevant topics.
 
assignment | results
Students will need to complete an assignment and an exam for each of the five modules.
An assessment will be made at the end of each module with an overall yearly assessment. Successful completion of the certificate course is dependent on a pass in each module of at least 60%. Results for each module are allocated as follows:
